SafetyIsn’t a Policy,
It’s Our
Culture

At ACK Marine & General Contracting, safety is at the forefront of every operation and a fundamental condition of employment. Our work takes place in dynamic, marine environments, which is why safety is not optional; it is integral to how we plan, execute, and complete every project. We are committed to protecting our employees, subcontractors, clients, and the public while maintaining full compliance with all applicable regulations.

Committed to Safety in Every Environment

  • Safety is a core value and a fundamental condition of employment. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for our employees, subcontractors, clients, and the public. Our Health and Safety Program establishes clear expectations, responsibilities, and procedures to prevent injuries, protect property, and ensure regulatory compliance across all operations.

Safety is not optional—it is integral to how we plan, execute, and complete every project.

  • ACK Marine is committed to conducting all operations in a manner that protects the health and safety of our workforce, clients, and the communities in which we operate. We comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations, including standards established by OSHA, the U.S. Coast Guard, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), as well as all applicable maritime and project-specific safety requirements.

Our operations align with recognized industry best practices, including ANSI consensus standards and USACE safety requirements outlined in EM 385-1-1 (Safety and Health Requirements Manual), where applicable.

Every employee has both the authority and the responsibility to stop work if unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed. No schedule, cost, or production objective will ever take precedence over safety. Safety is a core value and a shared responsibility across our organization.

  • Safety is a shared responsibility, led by management and executed by every individual on the jobsite.

    • Executive leadership establishes safety expectations and provides necessary resources

    • Project management integrates safety into planning, scheduling, and execution

    • Superintendents and foremen enforce safe work practices in the field

    • Employees and subcontractors are responsible for following safety procedures and reporting hazards

Clear accountability ensures safety requirements are consistently applied and upheld.

  • Proactive hazard recognition is essential to preventing incidents. Our program includes:

    • Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs)

    • Daily safety briefings and toolbox talks

Hazards are identified, evaluated, and mitigated before work begins and continuously throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Given the unique risks associated with marine construction, ACK Marine maintains specialized safety guidelines for water-based operations, including:

    • Fall protection and personal flotation device (PFD) requirements

    • Vessel and barge safety protocols

    • Crane and lifting operations over water

    • Dive operations and confined space procedures

    • Environmental and weather-related risk management

These practices are designed to address dynamic marine conditions and protect personnel working on or over water.

  • Our Health and Safety Program is a living system that evolves with our operations. We continuously evaluate safety performance through:

    • Safety audits and inspections

    • Management reviews

    • Employee feedback and involvement

    • Lessons learned from incidents and near misses

We encourage open communication and active participation at all levels to promote a culture where safety excellence is expected and achieved.

  • We are committed to meeting or exceeding all applicable safety and health regulations. Our safety program aligns with:

    • OSHA standards

    • U.S. Coast Guard and maritime regulations

    • American National Standards Institute (ANSI) consensus standards

    • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) requirements, including EM 385-1-1 Safety and Health Requirements Manual, where applicable

    • Client-specific safety requirements

    • Recognized industry best practices

Compliance is the minimum standard; our goal is zero incidents and a safe return home for every worker, every day.
